As a baby, Emily used to sit on her dad's lap as he played show tunes on the piano in their house in Newton, MA. Apparently she enjoyed herself because when she turned 5 she asked if she could take violin lessons at day camp. Even though the instructor never even taught them to use the bow, Emily was hooked. She continued lessons throughout elementary school and practiced with her dad every evening (while her mother tried, often in vain, to occupy her younger brother.) She also joined local music schools - Rivers, Longy and NEC - to enhance private lessons with chorus, theory, orchestra, and her favorite - chamber music. After 5th grade, Emily discovered her home away from home at Greenwood Music Camp in the Berkshires where she has gone every summer since - first as a camper and now as a faculty member.

During her chamber music experiences, Emily was drawn to the viola and decided to make the switch at the end of her junior year in high school. With such a short time to prepare on her new instrument, Emily decided to take a year off before college in order to polish her audition program. She also improved her teaching skills working in an after-school program in Newton. Even though Texas was a bit of a shock for such an East-coast girl, she enjoyed her time at Rice, but had to transfer when her teacher decided to move. After completing her undergraduate degree at New England Conservatory, she pursued a master's at Indiana University in Bloomington. In addition to working on her own playing, Emily was able to observe and learn from influential pedagogue Mimi Zweig.

Currently, Emily balances her teaching with performing. She has performed with Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of Indian Hill, Nashua Symphony Orchestra, A Far Cry, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Portland Symphony, New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, and others.
